A film so short, so sharp, so compact that it feels like someone had rammed a fine needle through your skin. That might not be an accident considering that the novel behind PIERCING is from the Japanese man Ryu¯ Murakami, whose novel “Audition” served as the inspiration for Miike’s eponymous film. The young director Nicolas Pesce turned PIERCING into a hyper-stylized Neo-Giallo (including Goblin’s “Tenebre” on the soundtrack): A man plans to murder a prostitute. He prepares everything for the perfect crime. Then the young woman he called for enters the hotel room.
