TOP KNOT DETECTIVE

TOP KNOT DETECTIVE is the name of the best Japanese TV show that was never made. The eponymous mockumentary is full of delightful 80s TV pulp aesthetics, and tells the story of the trench and turf wars that take place behind the scenes, in which the star Takashi Takamoto and his on and off screen rival Haruto Kioke regularly clash. The show itself starts as a classic Samurai story yet soon throws robot ninjas, giant monsters, a penis creature, and go-go girls into the mix. Why the bloody series was discontinued and one of the investors is found dismembered in a suitcase is revealed in this film.
