That the world is in the grips of the one percent of superrich is a known fact. The Brazilian director Guto Parente turns that fact into an unrelenting horror satire: Gilda and Octavio reside in a lavish estate with a private beach and have frequently changing domestic workers. The reason for this is as simple as it is gruesome, the decadent couple have developed a taste for human flesh. THE CANNIBAL CLUB is a bitter caricature of society shown through crystal clear and sterile imagery that brings the contemporary state of the world straight to the point: the rich eat the poor.
