It is no accident that the film and its protagonist are both named Luz, meaning light. Nor is it one that the young German Tilman Singer shot his first feature length film on coarse 16mm-film. LUZ is a summoning of the elementary power of cinema, far from classic narrative film. Luz is a taxi driver in Berlin. It is said that at home in Chile she convinced monastery students that they were diseased or pregnant, and held black masses in church. In an abandoned police station her memories and her present collide in an experimental build-up. Watch closely, German cinema: and there was light.

In attendance of director Tilman Singer.
